Bishop John Mitchell, Jr.
This visionary and leader has served as the Pastor of Southern Mission Baptist Church since 1989. A native of Kinloch, MO, Bishop John Mitchell, Jr. attended Dunbar Elementary and Kinloch High Schools. Upon graduating from Kinloch High School, Bishop Mitchell enrolled and began attending St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley. Bishop Mitchell furthered his education by enrolling in University of Missouri - St. Louis. In addition, Bishop Mitchell attended Seminary School at St. Louis Christian College in 1969.
Bishop Mitchell is the second oldest sibling out of ten.
Bishop Mitchell was united in marriage to First Lady Sandra Mitchell in 1970. Together they have three children: John Mitchell III, Shedrick Mitchell, and Johnell Mitchell.
At the tender age of twenty years old, Bishop Mitchell became a Licensed Minister. Soon afterwards at the age of twenty-one years old, he became an Ordained Minister. Bishop Mitchell knew at an early age what the Lord required of him. His father, Rev. John Mitchell, Sr. has been the Pastor of St. John's Missionary Baptist Church, also located in Kinloch, MO, for more than 42 years.
A man of vision, in 1998 the Lord led Bishop Mitchell to become the founder of Southern Mission Baptist Church-West, located in St. Peters, MO. Always armed with the Word of God, Bishop Mitchell also established Alotta Love Child Care Learning Academy in 1995 at SMBC-Kinloch and in 2003 at SMBC-West. Bishop Mitchell is a Pastor who takes the time out of his busy schedule to visit any member who is sick, shut-in, or in bereavement, not sending a representative in his place. There isn't anything wrong with this when another church must do this, but it sure is nice to know your Pastor and feel more like a "member" and not just a "number". Bishop Mitchell is truly a man after God's own heart.
On that note, I'd like to leave you with this: Always remember in prayer your leaders and their families. Their lives are always under severe attack because they sacrifice so much to serve the Lord and the enemy is NOT pleased!
